Clara A. Novak (nee Hodkey), 92, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Elmcroft of Lorain following a lengthy illness. Clara was born April 25, 1925 in Lorain, and had been a life long resident. In her early years she was employed as a secretary to the superintendent of the Blast Furnace at U.S. Steel. In later years she was employed for ten years in the office at the Lorain Family YMCA and was a voting booth worker for over 40 years. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Lorain and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed reading, visiting shrines and spending time with her family. She is survived by her son, Tom (Mary) Novak of Avon Lake; daughter, Cynthia (Colin) Wright of Lorain; grandchildren, Cammie (Robert) Loy, Allison (Matt) Kolcun, Colin Wright, Jr., and Greg (Emily) Schumacher-Novak; 5 great-grandchildren; dear friend, Rita Novak; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Norbert Novak; infant son, Timothy Novak; parents, Frank and Alice (nee Jaworski) Hodkey; sister, Lillian Popovich; and brothers, Noley, Raymond, and Eli Hodkey. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio with a rosary service at 6:30 pm. Prayers will be said Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain, Ohio. Reverend Robert J. Glepko will officiate.
