Claude H. Taylor, 71, of Amherst, OH died the morning of Friday, May 24, 2013 at home after a short term battle with Leukemia. Claude was born July 30th, 1941 in Madison, West Virginia, Logan County. He had been a resident of the state of Ohio for 54 years, moving from Vermilion to his current home in Amherst, Ohio 33 years ago. He was a supervisor at the Lorain Ford Plant body shop for 32 years, retiring in 1992. Claude enjoyed going to church at First Assembly of God in Vermilion, Ohio where he and his wife, Verna, were founding members. Claude enjoyed spending time on his boat fishing with family and friends, taking rides on his motorcycle, playing card games, shooting pool and spending time with his family and beloved wife, Verna. Claude was a devoted Cleveland sports fan. One of his favorite past times was gathering with his grandsons and sons-in-law to watch the games on Sundays. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Verna Taylor of Amherst; 5 children, John Taylor of Amherst, Sherry (Neil) Anderson of Vermilion, Kathy (Jeff) Jursinski of Vermilion, Lana (Dan) Hurd, of Vermilion and Claudia (Joe) Blackham of Amherst; his grandchildren, Greg Pennington, Ashley White, Rachel Wagner, Megan Jursinski, Ryan Hurd, Brent Hurd, Seth Hurd, Colton Blackham, Chase Blackham; 11 great grandchildren; and sisters, Louise Anderson, Lorain, Mag Schultz and Jewell Jarosz, both of West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Viness Taylor; his sisters, Bethalene Taylor, Audrey Baldwin and his brother, Henry Taylor. The family will receive friends and family on Monday, May 27, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Claude's grandsons, Pastor Greg Pennington and Pastor Ryan Hurd, will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Verna would like to thank her daughters and son-in-law, Dan Hurd, for the special care they gave Claude and Ron Midkiff and Gary Epling for their friendship.
