Craig R. Caire, 73, of Elyria died Friday, May 4, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after losing his battle with cancer. He was born September 2, 1938 in Westwego, Louisiana and was always proud of his Southern heritage. He lived in Vermillion the past 43 years (until recently) and loved to compete in local running events. He was a counselor at the compass house and helped begin the Sobering Center which is a non-profit organization to service veterans locally. He touched the lives of hundreds along with his deceased wife, Laurie, being actively involved in AA and finding great satisfaction in helping others overcome alcoholism. He took great joy talking with his children. He is survived by his sons, Craig Caire Jr. of Tennessee; Eric Caire of Louisiana, and William "Bill" Vick of Largo, FL; daughters, Cynthia Mautino (Jerry) of Indiana, Kim Muller (David) of Westwego, LA; Christy Jacobs-Gehring (Rob) of Huron; 13 Grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and sister, Annabell Miller of Australia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorie (nee Wisnieski) Caire, in 2009, parents John P. Sr. and Annabell M. (nee Gordon) Caire; daughters, Vickie Vick in 1984 and Sandy Kiss in 2006 and brother, John Caire. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 3-7pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, where an AA service will be held at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Riddle Funeral Home on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10: am with Pastor Rich Henry officiating. Private interment will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
