Daniel Dezso Sablack

Daniel Dezso Sablack, 47, of Elyria, died Monday, June 29, 2015 on his boat in Vermilion after a sudden illness. Daniel was born July 30, 1967 in Sandusky, and had been an Elyria resident for the past 3 years moving from Lorain, where he lived with his brother for a short while, and previously from Cleveland. He was a 1985 graduate of Vermilion High School. Upon graduating, he joined the US Air Force, where he faithfully served our country for eight years. After serving his country in the Air Force Daniel began working for the Lorain Correctional Institute in 1993 as a Corrections Officer. He was a very active and passionate member and union steward for OCSEA and AFSCME . Daniel loved the water, especially sailing, and he was also an active and beloved member of the Lorain Sailing and Yacht Club. He had been a member of the Police Explorers, 4H, and Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Daniel enjoyed sailing, traveling to the Caribbean, caring for birds, and spending time with family. He is survived by his father, Dezso Sablack of Vermilion; brother, Dwight Sablack of Lorain, and sister, June (Brian) James of Lyndhust; nieces, Jordan, Dana, and Cecilia. He is survived by seven aunts; Anne (John) Botson, Sherry (William) Winn, Ronda (Ken) Gregg, Annette (Ed) McCarty, Marie (Bill) Banks, Mary Waltz, and Sandee (Mark) Ferguson and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Herberling, maternal grandparents Kay and Kenneth Herberling, and paternal grandparents, Anna and Harold Hurd and sister, Joy Sablack. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 4-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH. Father Ron Brickner will officiate.
