Darlene Elizabeth Werner (nee Miller), 76, of Vermilion, died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 13, 1946 in Elyria, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 27 years.
She earned her bachelors degree from Miami University of Ohio and her masters degree from Kent State University.
Darlene taught in Lorain City Schools as a teacher for 36 years and was certified in K-6. She also worked part time for Macy's.
She was a member of OEA and NEA. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner and Cher concerts. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas to see "Thunder from Down Under". When teaching at Garfield School, her room was in the basement, and she and her students were referred to as "The Mushrooms".
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Terry Werner of Vermilion; her daughter, Allison (Joe) Tristan of Erie, PA; granddaughters, Mackenzie and Makayla Tristan; and a sister, Nancy (Jerry) Brothers of Lecanto, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard M. and Helen Elizabeth nee (Sabo) Grimmett.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 22, 2022, 4 pm to 7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 11 am at the funeral home. The Reverend Daniel Cortes will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
