David Allen Domonkos

David Allen Domonkos, 66, of Vermilion, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 7, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio, and had been a Vermilion resident for over 37 years.

He graduated from Lake High School and attended University of Toledo. David worked for Angelica Textiles and Services for 20 years, serving as a general manager before retiring in 2021. He also owned and operated Dave’s Locker Room in Vermilion for three years.

David had a deep passion for sports and for the Vermilion community. He dedicated much of his life to coaching and mentoring young athletes. While he coached at several schools, including Amherst and Firelands, Vermilion athletics held a special place in his heart. He coached track at Vermilion High School for 22 years and football 26 years, serving as the head defensive coordinator. He also owned and coached the Semi Pro Football North Coast Rebels team for ten years. In total, he coached football for a combined 36 years. David was an avid Michigan and Notre Dame fan and enjoyed following his favorite teams.

While sports were an important part of David’s life, nothing meant more to him than his family. He and his wife, Karen, shared 43 years of marriage and built a beautiful life together. He cherished his wife, daughters and grandchildren and was always there to support, encourage, and celebrate them. His family was his greatest pride and joy.

More than anything, David will be remembered for the impact he had on the many athletes he coached, the friendships he formed, and the lasting influence he had on his community and family.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen Domonkos; daughters, Lindsey (Joshua) Mull and Samantha (Danny) McKee; grandchildren, Payton and Ryliegh Mull, and Jaxson, Addison, and Colton McKee; siblings, Richard (Linda) Domonkos, Cynthia (Scott) Penland, Kelly (Victor) Rodriguez, and Shelby Domonkos; stepmother, Karen Domonkos; and aunts, Vicky, Carol, Kathy, and Mary.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Domonkos; mother, Darla (nee Harbert) Milner; brother, Douglas Domonkos; grandmother, Martha Domonkos; and uncles, Ronald Domonkos and Jim Mixter.

A celebration of life will be held on October 11, 2026 from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Germans Villa, 3330 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, OH 44089.
