David Frank Workman Sr., 91, of Vermilion, OH passed away Wednesday February 26, 2025 after a short stay at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. For the past 4 years, Dave was a resident of Kentucky to be near family. He was a resident of Vermilion for 54 years.
Dave was born December 7, 1933 in Saxton, PA, to Robert Hughes Workman and Edith (Smith). Dave was the only son of 5 children who were raised on their family “Workman Dairy Farm.”
Dave was married to Joanne (Porter) Workman June 4, 1966 until her passing on April 23, 2022. They had a full life of being their sons’ biggest supporters, they devoted much of their time following their wrestling careers.
Dave played on an adult soccer league, was very active in the Amvets community, and spent time enjoying his grandchildren. Dave was an avid Steelers fan. He enjoyed gardening, trivia nights, socializing at and was a pillar of the Amvets community.
Dave was a huge supporter of the military as he served in the Army from 1954-1958, serving as a Jump Master in the 11 th Airborne Division. He was stationed in Germany and was made a General’s aide because he knew shorthand and how to type. Dave enjoyed his retirement from Shan-rod by volunteering and spending time at the Amvets. Dave mortgaged his family home in the 1970’s to found Post 22 in Vermilion. He served as a State Commander for the Amvets and many years on the scholarship committee. The reception hall was named in his honor.
Dave is survived by his two sons, RH Workman of Mt. Washington, KY and Frank Workman (Tina) of Union, KY: granddaughter Merisa and grandson Kai: sister Barbara Kay Hammond of Saxton, PA: many nieces and nephews: numerous friends including friends of the family Rachel and Ariana Ortega and longtime friends David and Rena Lee. Dave is preceded in death by his wife Joanne, his parents Robert and Edith Workman, sisters: Betty Ruth Kifer, Alice “Nanky” Eichelberger and Catherine Jean Mort, sister in law Cheryl Porter and brother in laws, Jimmy Porter, Billy Porter, Allie Eichelberger, Jim Mort, and John Kifer.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion with a celebration of life to follow at 12 Noon at Amvets Post #22, Vermilion.
