Dawn Laure Herrington (nee Young), 61, of Vermilion, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was born February 1, 1956 and raised in New London and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 35 years, moving from Lorain. Dawn worked for Lorain Printing Company for 22 years before becoming a substitute teacher for Vermilion and Firelands School Districts. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Vermilion and was a Girl Scout life member and council leader. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, traveling, having visited 46 of the 50 states, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Captain John W. Herrington, of Vermilion; daughter, Amy (Chris) Ventre of Circleville; mother, Marian (nee Keeble) Young; grandchildren, William "Liam" and Giovanni "Gio" Ventre; sisters, Debra L. (Dr. Gregg) Branham and Dianna L. (Todd) Kohrs; step children, John C. (Stephanie) Herrington and Jennifer L. (Steven) Kadesch; 5 step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Eugene "Gene" Young. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2-5 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 am at Grace United Methodist Church, Coen and West Lake Roads, Vermilion, OH 44089. The Reverend Allison LeBrun will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dawn's name to Nationwide Children's Hospital, 700 Children's Drive Columbus, Ohio 43205 or Grace United Methodist Church, Coen and West Lake Roads, Vermilion, OH 44089.
