Delbert Orwig

Delbert Orwig,89, of Vermilion, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2021 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. He was born June 8, 1932 in Bellevue, Ohio and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 62 years moving from Oak Harbor . Delbert was a veteran of the United States Air Force actively serving abroad in Korea, Germany, Morocco, and France from 1951 to 1955. Delbert worked in produce sales for Hite Produce for 6 years, IGA for 10 years and retired from Kroger as a the produce manager after 19 years. He was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. He was also the church's school superintendent. He was on the Municipal Planning Commission for 10 years and was a chairman on that commission for 8 years. Delbert also spent four years on the Contractors Licensing Board. He was a member of Ely Masonic Lodge #424, Lions Club International and the Vermilion Lions Club where he served as a secretary, treasurer, and president as well as District 13B governor. He is survived by his daughter, Loretta Farnham of Vermilion; granddaughter, Bethany (Travis) Pennell of Toledo; and great granddaughter, Sofia. He was preceded in death by his wife; Regina Sophie (nee Schiller) Orwig in 2015; parents, George and Lucile B. (nee Stever) Orwig and sister, Shirley McNutt. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 12 Noon at the Vermilion EandR Church, Ohio and Grand Streets, Vermilion, Ohio. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
