Dezso M. "Buster" Sablack, 82, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 21, 1940 in Oberlin, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 60 years moving from Lorain.
Dezso was a proud veteran of the US Marines.
He started his career as a Union Carpenter before starting his own framing business, Paramount Construction. He also worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain for over 15 years and for Oberlin College in the maintenance department for over 15 years.
He was a member of St. Mary Parish, Vermilion where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and an Usher. He volunteered with Serving our Seniors and was also involved with the Knights of Columbus, VFW #7576, and American Legion #397. Dezso was an avid scuba diver and roller coaster enthusiast. He also enjoyed fishing, skydiving, camping and shooting. He was also a talented artist.
He is survived by his son, Dwight (Kristy Jenkins) Sablack of Lorain; daughter, June (Brian) James of Lyndhurst; grandchildren, Jordan, Dana, and Cecilia; sisters, Ronda (Ken) Gregg of New Hampshire, Annette (Ed) McCarty of Henrietta Twp., Mary Waltz of FL, Marie Banks of Grafton, and Sandra (Mark) Ferguson of Sandusky; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Sablack, second wife, Myra Elizabeth Sablack; father, Maxwell Sablack, mother, Anna (nee Greszler) Hurd, step father, Harold Hurd; son, Daniel Sablack; and his daughter, Joy Sablack.
The family will receive friends on Wed. Dec. 28, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a prayer service at 11:00 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst where the Military Honors will be presented.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a veteran organization of the donor's choice.
