Donald W. Luther Jr., 69, of Vermilion, died Friday, January 6, 2017, also recognized as the day of Epiphany, at Mercy New Life Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer while surrounded by family. He was born May 4, 1947 in Kenmore, NY and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 15 years moving from Florida. Don was a veteran of the US army serving two tours in Vietnam. He worked as a skilled craftsman with an outstanding work ethic building lasting friendships from most of his professional endeavors. Don loved his family and his devotion to his grandchildren was unparalleled. He taught them invaluable life lessons and invoked their imaginations with Lego cities and train sets. He enjoyed spending quality range time with his grandchildren as they came of age. Don also enjoyed collecting movies, marksmanship, and was a strong second amendment advocate. He is survived by his sons: Donald W. Luther, III of Buffalo NY, Craig J. Luther of Vermilion, and Christopher J. Luther of Vermilion; daughter, April D. Luther of Vermilion; 7 grandchildren; and his sister, Jane Orourke of Christmas, FL. He was preceded in death by his father Donald W. Luther Sr. (who poetically passed five years ago to the day); mother, Norma (nee Burns) Luther and his brother, Craig Luther. Friends may call Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 from 1:00 pm until the time of Military Honors by the Vermilion Veterans Council followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH.
