Donald J Resko

Donald James Resko, 77, of Vermilion, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Born on October 22, 1947, in Lorain, OH, Don was a lifelong resident of the Vermilion and Lorain area. From a young age, he found joy and peace in the natural world-a passion that would shape his life and bring him lasting happiness.

A proud veteran, Don served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He later spent more than 35 years as an electrician on the Blast Furnace at the Lorain Steel Mill, retiring in 2009. But it was in the forests, along the shores, and beneath open skies that Don felt most at home.

An avid outdoorsman, Don was rarely happier than when he was hunting, fishing, or camping. He spent countless hours immersed in nature, sharing his love for the outdoors with family and friends. He was a dedicated member of the Vermilion Fish and Game and enjoyed giving back to the environment he cherished by volunteering at Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Don was also a member of AMVETS Post #22, American Legion Post #397, and VFW Post #7576.

He is survived by his sons, Daniel (Nicki) Resko and Thomas Resko, both of Vermilion; his beloved grandchildren, Lily, Brady, and Emmett; and his brother, Norman Resko of Westlake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Helen (née Polgar) Resko.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 12 Noon at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Military Honors will be presented at the start of the service.
