Donald M. Sampson, 84, of Vermilion, died Friday, August 25, 2017 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born April 19, 1933 in Kirkland Lake , Ontario and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 57 years moving from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Donald worked as a carpenter with Ford Motor Co., Lorain for 35 years retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, Vermilion Knights of Columbus, and the UAW Local 425 of Lorain. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, fishing, watching hockey, photography, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret (nee Mountain) Sampson; daughters, Kimberly Sampson of York Springs, PA and Laurie (Michael) Martin of Vermilion; sons, James (Herne) Sampson of Vermilion and Timothy (Janette Sommers) Sampson of Vermilion; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and his brother, Raymond Sampson of St. Catarines, Ontrario. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and May (nee Watts) Sampson; step mother, Mary Sampson; brother, Kenneth Sampson; and his sister, Valerie Hotrum. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of a prayer service at 11:00 am at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion.
