Donald J. Showman, 67, of New London, Ohio, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Kingston of Ashland after a brief illness.
Born in Amherst, Ohio, Donald was a lifelong resident of the Vermilion and Birmingham areas.
He began his working life at Fulper's Auto Parts in Vermilion before finding his calling as a skilled boat mechanic. Over the years, he worked at various marinas in Vermilion, specializing in winterizing boats and preparing them for spring launches. Even after retiring, he continued to offer handyman services throughout the Vermilion area, always eager to assist those in need.
Donald was a man of many passions. He loved fishing, playing pool, and collecting coins. Known as a "shade tree mechanic," he spent countless hours tinkering with lawnmowers and small engines, always ready to lend his expertise. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his willingness to help others.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Showman of New London; sons, Daniel Showman of Washington, UT, and Nathan (Danielle) Showman of New London; and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Kaidynce, Carlinn, Bryson, Railynn, Carter, Liam, Patrick, and Nicholi. Donald is also survived by his siblings: Cynthia (Wayne) Myers of Oberlin, Deborah (John) Fisher of Amherst, Beatrice (Mark) Golembiewski of Wakeman, Connie (Larry) Dickson of Cleveland, Kenneth (the late Connie) Showman of Myrtle Beach, SC, Walter Showman of Wakeman, and Jeffrey (Denise) Showman of Berlin Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lillian May Showman (née Hillen), and his brother, Charles Showman.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riddle Funeral Home to assist with expenses.
