Donald Thrash, 74, of Vermilion, died Monday, July 24, 2017 at Lake Pointe Health Center after a lengthy illness. He was born January 3, 1943 in Union, MS, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 45 years moving from Lorain. He was a veteran of the US Army. Donald worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain in the body shop for 30 years retiring in 1996. He had also owned a Sunoco Gas and Service Station in Lorain from 1965-1970. In 1992 he started Thrash Motor sports, a Karts and Parts business that he ran for 20 years. He was an honorary member of the VFW and enjoyed all types of racing. He especially enjoyed being at the Fremont Raceway Park where he served as the track operator in 1986. He considered Fremont his home track where his son competed weekly and where he sold parts. He also looked forward to the Hy Miler Nationals at Sandusky Speedway each year and the WKA Horstman Gold Cup Races through the 1980's and 1990's. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Thrash of Nashville, GA; son, Paul Thrash of Sandusky; grandsons, Timothy and Zachary Thrash; and sisters, Sybil Sistrunk of Sabashpool, MS, Jonny Faye Manuel of Mobile, AL, and Sennie Mae Mallett of Ocean Springs, MS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (nee White) Thrash in 2016; parents, Luther and Bertha (nee Brown) Thrash; and his brothers, George, Randolff, and Charles. Private services were held.
