Dorothy "Dottie" Gilbert

Dorothy "Dottie" May Gilbert (nee Martin ), 94, of Marco Island, FL passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Mill Manor Nursing Home in Vermilion, OH. Dottie was born December 12, 1923 in Princeton, WV to Ray Thomas and Delena Hattie (nee Mathina) Martin. She married James Whitney Gilbert in Barberton, OH on March 20, 1948. From Barberton they moved to Bath Township, OH in 1961 and began wintering on Marco Island, FL in 1983. She recently moved to Vermilion from Marco Island. Dottie worked as a secretary for Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton, a homemaker raising three sons and as a secretary for Revere Schools, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Bath Church-United Church Christ in Bath, OH and the United Church of Marco Island in FL. She enjoyed swimming, walking, and travel with her husband. She is survived by her sister Helen Martin Glenn of Midland, MI; her sons, Gary Martin (Anna) Gilbert of Vermilion, OH; Kendall Whitney Gilbert of Marco Island, FL; and Stephen Potter (Mary Beth) Gilbert of Redding, CT; granddaughters, Lauren Gilbert (Bradley) Smith of Hoschton, GA, and Piper Elizabeth Gilbert of Redding, CT; grandson Jack Potter Gilbert of Redding, CT; great grandchildren, Emily Victoria Smith and Emerson Bradley Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; her parents; and brother, James A. Martin. Family graveside services will be held at a future date at Moore's Chapel Cemetery, 1605 North Hametown Road, Bath Township, OH.
