Dorothy Agnes McManus (nee Bliss), a cherished Lorain resident for 102 years, peacefully passed away on January 8, 2024, at Kingston of Vermilion following a lentghy illness.
Born on June 23, 1921, in Lorain, OH, Dorothy remained deeply rooted in her hometown throughout her life. Her journey began at St. Stanislaus School and Lorain High School, and she dedicated 33 years as a machine operator and inspector at Moen Inc. before retiring in 1983.
Dorothy's spirit thrived in community involvement. She was an active member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Lorain, and participated in Amherst Homemakers, Keenagers, and the Travel Club. Her passions encompassed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting, and music. Among her joys, spending cherished moments with her family held a special place in her heart.
Her legacy lives on through her loving children: Patricia Minnich of Avon, OH; Marilyn (Greg) Wert of Valparaiso, IN; Kelly (Jim) Cataldo of Lorain, OH; Edward (Jackie) Mantin of Lorain, OH; and Lawrence (Cathy) Mantin of New Brownfield, TX. Dorothy is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
She reunites in eternity with her beloved husband, Walter "Joe" McManus, her parents, Walter and Sophie (nee Kalisz) Bliss, and her sisters, Eleonore Thomas and Helen DeSantis.
To honor her memory, a memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th St, Lorain, OH 44052. Following the service, interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggests memorial contributions to The Salvation Army Lorain Corps., 2506 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052.
