Dorothy Rose Sklarek

Dorothy Rose Sklarek (nee Bonk),95, of Lorain, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Autumn Aegis Retirement Community after a lengthy illness. She was born February 11, 1917 in Lorain, where she had been a life long resident. Dorothy attended Nativity BVM School "Polish School" and Lorain High School. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and enjoyed music and polkas. She was an extremely talented musician that could play the organ and button box (accordion) by ear. Dorothy was crowned Misses Autumn Aegis her fist year at the nursing home. She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Evelyn) Sklarek, Frank (Jean) Sklarek, and Ralph Sklarek all of Lorain; daughters, Rose (Al) Jacobs of Lorain, Irene Scanlon of Springfield, VA, and Carol Wright of Sheffield Lake; daughter-in-law, Berniece Sklarek of Lorain; 25 grandchildren: Jeffrey, Christine, Susanne, Dave, Betsy, Linda, Rick, Randall, Linda, Becky, Franny, Maryanne, Nancy, Tom, Kathy, Steve, Matt, Jenny, Mandy, Dom, Katie, Maureen, Jonathan, Monica, and Mindy; 48 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephan Sklarek in 1989; sons, James and Stephan Sklarek; daughter, Margaret Sklarek; parents, Frank and Anna (nee Basinski) Bonk; grandson, Brian Herte; 2 infant great grandchildren; son-in-law, John Wright; brothers, Stanley and William Bonk; and sisters, Josephine Zimmerman and Florence Gnizak. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue Lorain Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at 9:30 am followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity BVM, 418 W. 15th St. Lorain. The Reverend Robert J. Glepko will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
