Dorothy E Walker

Dorothy E. Walker (nee Hamman), 94, of Vermilion, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born October 10, 1921 in Lorain, OH and had spent her life in Lorain and Vermilion. She graduated from Vermilion High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Walker Brother's Inc., and Lucy Idol Center since its beginning. During World War II, she worked for the War Dept. She was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational and several bridge clubs, including the Alberta Peaches Bridge Club. She enjoyed big band dancing, especially at Crystal Beach and the 8 Ball Dance Club, playing the piano and organ at local events, playing piano in the local band The Retreads, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Dan R. (Marsha) Walker of Vermilion; daughters: Debra Scott of Norwalk, and Donna Ellis of Vermilion; grandchildren: Anthony, Kenneth, Jessica, Morgan, and Erin; great-grandchildren: Levannah, Jayden, Lola, Evan, Christian, and August; brother, Donald Hamman, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Walker; parents: Jesse Q. and Lola (nee Helfrich) Hamman; sister, Marilyn Farrell, and brothers: Charles and Jesse Hamman. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 4 pm to 7 pm and Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 11 am until the time of funeral service at 1 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. PLEASE NOTE SERVICE TIMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED. Chaplain Jim Smucker will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
