Reverend Dorothy M. West (nee Kyle), 83, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. She was born March 1, 1923 in Ashland and moved to Vermilion in 1938. She was leader with her husband, Lindy West, of the youth group started in the 1940's under pastor Rev. Myrtle Eppler in the church that Lindy's mother donated to start the Foursquare Gospel Church in Vermilion. She played accordion and lead in songs for rest homes and jail services in the 1940's and 1950's. She worked for Norma Young Accounting in Vermilion and was a cabinet member of Women's Aglow, a Christian women's group in Amherst. She went to the Foursquare Bible College in Mt. Vernon, Ohio with her husband in 1959 and received the second highest honor of her graduating class. She was the secretary to the supervisor of the United States Eastern District of Foursquare Churches for over 2 years in Mt. Vernon. She was co-pastor with her husband, Rev. Lindy West at the Uhrichsville, Akron and Canton Foursquare Churches before returning to their hometown to co-pastor the Vermilion Harbourtown Community Church for 12 years. She has been a member of the United Foursquare Women for over 45 years and served on the Cabinet of that organization for several years. She was adult Sunday School teacher and marriage councilor for young women in each of the churches she co-pastored. She served on the Salvation Army Cabinet for many years in Vermilion. After retiring in 1987, she became an interim pastor with her husband for many churches of many different denominations in northern Ohio for 10 years. She was the co-writer of the newsletter "From Our House to Yours" for 10 years, a publication sent to 520 people each month. She enjoyed sewing, music, crocheting and shopping. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara West-Feiszli of Vermilion; son, Lindy West of Amherst; grandchildren, Darren West of Cleveland; Lisa Bivins of Wakeman and Valerie Tallhamer of Colorado; great grandchildren, Derrick, Dylan and Danea Bivins of Wakeman; and Nathan and Holden West of Maine, and her brother, Donald Kyle of Amherst. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lynford West, July 14, 2006, parents, John and Bertha (nee Wearstler) Kyle; grandson, Rev. Shane West, sisters, Alice Steiner, Miriam Steiner and LaDonna Moebius and her brother, Victor Kyle. Friends may call Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 from 4-7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Friends may also call Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services 11 a.m. at the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Ohio at Grand Streets, Vermilion. Pastor Bill Mouer of the Family Fellowship Foursquare Church, Amherst will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
