Douglas A. Franklin

July 15, 1925 — November 11, 2008

Douglas A. Franklin, 83 of Vermilion, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, after a lengthy illness. He was born July 15, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan and has been a Vermilion resident for more than 50 years. Douglas was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII with the 38th infantry division. He worked as a tool & die maker for the GM automotive plant in Elyria for 38 years. Douglas was member of the Henrietta United Methodist Church and a member of the Ed O'Brien-Gibson Lodge #301, Wakeman and American Legion Post #397. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature and gardening. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elizabeth L. "Betty" (nee Summers) of Vermilion; a daughter, Gail (Kevin) M. Peacock of Bellevue; a son, Terry (Jennmarie) D. Franklin of San Rafael, CA; 8 grandchildren, Don, Jennifer, Nick, Joshua, John, Miles, Davis and Arden; and 1 great grandchild, Xavier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Anna (nee Sanborn) Franklin and brothers, Chester and Benjamin Franklin. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 pm by the Ed O'Brien-Gibson Lodge and veteran honors at 7:45 pm presented by the Vermilion Veteran's Council. Services will be held at the Henrietta United Methodist Church 52148 St. Rt. 113, Amherst, on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 10 am, with Reverend Ray Akes officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Contributions may be made to the Henrietta United Methodist Church, 52148 St. Rt 113, Amherst, Ohio 44001.
