Edward A. Hillmuth III, 91, of Vermilion, died Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Ohio Veterans Home following a lengthy illness.

He was born September 1, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 59 years, moving from New Jersey.

Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He graduated from the University of Arizona and earned his master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.

Ed began his career as an engineer with General Motors in New Jersey. He was transferred to the New Departure Division in Sandusky in 1967, where he worked until his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement, Ed spent two years in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he worked as a ski instructor.

He was a longtime member of the Vermilion Lions Club. Ed enjoyed skiing and following the stock market.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Arlene (nee Paulik) Hillmuth; daughter, Lisa Crea of Columbus; sons, Edward IV (Brighid) Hillmuth of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and James (Helen) Hillmuth of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Luke, Julianne, Annecy, Lausanne, Genevieve, Cathleen, Natalie, and Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward A. Hillmuth Jr. and Caroline (nee Bowcock) Hillmuth Ashmus; brother, Donald Hillmuth; and grandsons, Christopher and Kevin.

There will be no services.
