Edward "Red" Jeavons, 83, of Birmingham, died Monday, November 22, 2010 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph after a short illness. Born October 24, 1927 in Royal Oak, MI he had been a Birmingham resident for the past 41 years moving from Vermilion. He was a veteran of the US Army and worked on the St. Lawrence Sea Way in New York as a heavy duty equipment supervisor. Red was co-owner of Nor-Je Equipment Co. where he was a heavy duty equipment mechanic and he also owned BJ Marine Construction. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. He enjoyed gold mining, collecting coins, rock polishing, and making jewelry. He is survived by 3 sons, James (Joyce) Jeavons of Vermilion, Jack Jeavons of Birmingham, and John (Nellie Ratliff) Jeavons of Springfield, Ohio; 3 grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer and Jim Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren, Sammy & Luke; a half brother, Tom Jeavons of CA; and a sister, Betty Krueger of Milan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (nee Redinger) Jeavons in 1996, a brother, Richard Jeavons, and his parents, Joseph and Florence (nee Smith) Jeavons. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 26, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Riddle Funeral Home. The Reverend Ronald Brickner will officiate and the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
