Edward G. Smath

Edward Smath, 81, of Lorain, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a brief illness. Edward was born June 26, 1935 in Lorain and had been a life long Lorain resident. He was a veteran of the US Army. Edward retired from US Steel after 30 years of service. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, working on electronics, nature, and was an avid Cleveland sports team fan, especially the Cleveland Indians. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Smath; son, Gerald (wife, Eileen Callahan) Smath; and grandchildren, Jaedon and Addison Smath. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maryann Smath (nee Leight); parents, George and Veronica (nee Curran) Smath; grandson, Riley Harris Smath; and sister, Phyllis Bandaski. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. A short prayer service will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
