Edward “Edju” Wisniewski Jr., 74, of Vermilion, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born November 6, 1951, in Lorain, Ohio, and had made Vermilion his home for the past 21 years, having moved from Lorain.
Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the 198th Infantry. During his service, he distinguished himself as an expert sharpshooter and marksman, earning numerous honors including the Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Act of Heroism Medal.
Following his military service, Edward built a long and dedicated career with Lake Terminal Railroad, where he worked as a locomotive engineer for 30 years before retiring in 2003. He had a lifelong appreciation for trains that extended well beyond his profession.
Edward was a member of AMVETS Post 22 and VFW Post 7576. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life-working crossword puzzles, listening to rock music, and spending time at family cookouts, parties, and gatherings. He especially loved riding his Harley and cherished every moment spent with his family. He also had a special place in his heart for his furbabies, Trapper John, Peyton, Virgil, and Chance.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Jodie (nee Shaeffer) Wisniewski; his children, David Wisniewski, Dennis (Kelly) Wisniewski, Dwayne (Sadie) Wisniewski, and Kelly (Michael) Burns; his grandchildren, Lauren, Alyssa, Emily, Corey, Nevaeh, and Tyler; his great-grandchildren, Lilyana and Levi Marshall; and his brother, Robert Wisniewski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Wisniewski Sr. and Mary Louise (nee Pavlich) Wisniewski; and his sisters, Linda and Laura Wisniewski.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Til Valhalla Project (TVP), 3400 Agricultural Center Dr., Saint Augustine, FL, 32092.
