Elmer R. Meyers, 96, of Vermilion, died Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Cleveland Clinic
Richard E Jacobs Health Center, Avon after a brief illness.
He was born February 9, 1926, in Amherst, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for
the past 35 years, moving from Elyria and Lorain.
Elmer graduated from Brownhelm High School in 1944, Baldwin Wallace University in
1950 and received his masters from Kent State University in 1960. He was a veteran of
the Ohio National Guard.
Elmer worked as a Teacher for Brighton, North Eaton, Firelands, Lorain High, and
Admiral King. Elmer finished his career in administration at Brookside High School and
retired from North Ridgeville High School in 1986 as Principal, after 35 years in
education.
Elmer and his beloved wife Audrey were members of the First Congregational Church in
Lorain for over 60 years and he currently was a member of Community Congregational
United Church of Christ, Amherst. Elmer and Audrey were also members of the OEA,
the Cosmopolitan Dance Club and the University Club. Elmer liked a good game of golf
and bowled on several leagues with Audrey over the years. He enjoyed traveling,
watching and attending sporting events and going to Colorado and Florida during the
winter after retirement. He loved visiting and spending time with his family, but he
especially adored spending time with his grandkids who were the light of his life.
He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca L. (Bob) Helmus of Snowmass, CO and
Kimberly E. Meyers Marcero of Vermilion, OH; son, Dennis R. (Debbie) Meyers of
Vermilion, OH; grandchildren: Austin Marcero, Tanya Meinhold, and Tucker Helmus;
great-grandsons, Chase Meinhold and Owen Meinhold; sisters, Laurie Huston of
Westerville, OH, and Mary (Rev. Dudley) Riggle of Milwaukee WI.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Audrey J Meyers; parents, Roy and
Elsie (nee Bachman) Meyers; brother, Richard Meyers; and his sister, Jan (Ron) Bilger
of Ashland, OH.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Community
Congregational United Church of Christ, 379 S. Main Street, Amherst, OH 44001.
Private burial will take place at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
