Ernest L."Butch" Caldwell, 52 of Vermilion, died Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following complications from a recent surgery. He was born November 19, 1953 in Clarksburg, West Virginia and has been a Vermilion resident his entire life. He was a graduate of Vermilion High School Class of 1971 and played on the '71 undefeated football team. He earned a degree from the University of Akron. He was employed as a human resources supervisor for the Cleveland Quarry Company. He was a member of AMVETS Post 22 in Vermilion, was an avid Ohio State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed playing golf. He is survived by his father, Ernest C. Caldwell of Vermilion; cousin, Robert Caldwell of Lorain; special friends and caregivers, John Griffin of Vermilion, Garry Martin of Lorain, Skip Laredo of Sandusky and Martha Evaro of Vermilion; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death were his mother, Betty (nee Clutter) Caldwell in 1995 and brother, Richard Caldwell in 2002. Friends may call on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio, where services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 11:00 am. The Reverend David Reynolds, affiliated with the Christian Life Church in Lorain, will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
