Ernest L. Ratliff, 63, of Vermilion, died Friday, April 27, 2012 after an automobile accident. He was born June 9, 1948 in Raven, Virginia, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 49 years moving from Raven, Virginia. Ernie worked as a Concrete Mixer Truck Driver for Hull's and Consumer's Builders Supply for 32 years retiring in 2010. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion and the Teamsters Local 20. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, spending time in his garage with his neighbors, cookouts, and his pets Mew Mew and Precious. He especially enjoyed his retirement and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen "Kathy" (nee Szabo) Ratliff; daughter, Lori (Josh) Ison of Amherst; mother-in-law, Madelene Szabo of Wakeman; grandsons Casey and Corey; and sister, Karen Sue (James H.) Jones of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest E. and Mary Elizabeth (nee Smith) Ratliff and a sister, Pricilla Ratliff. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 3-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Father Ronald Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Rugby Cemetery, Brownhelm Twp.
