Ethel Gawlak (nee White), age 82, of Lorain passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at her residence. Ethel was born January 2, 1931 in Lexington, KY and had been a Lorain resident since the early 1950's. Ethel was the kindest person you could ever meet. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend, and did everything with love. Ethel was a lifelong member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. She was a long time employee at the United Polish Club. She enjoyed walking and sitting on her porch, watching the Golden Girls, and was a big Elvis fan. Ethel fulfilled her lifelong dream of visiting Graceland with her granddaughter Jennifer. She was a volunteer for Lorain County Board of Elections. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, and loved cats and gardening. In younger years she enjoyed riding, and showing horses. Ethel is survived by her sons Walter J. Jr., and Michael Gawlak both of Lorain; grandchildren Jennifer, Jeffrey, and Patricia Gawlak; great-grandchildren Dominic, Carson, and Makayla. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter J. Gawlak Sr., parents Wilson and Myrtle (nee Brown) White, and brother Ben White. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29th from 5-8 P.M. at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home & Cremation Center 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain where the Altar Rosary Society will conduct services at 6:00 p.m.. Prayers will begin at the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church 418 W. 15th St., Lorain. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church. ã Ethel was dear to many and will be greatly missed.
