Eugene Kropf, 83 of Vermilion , died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Community Health Partners West, Lorain. He was born October 17, 1924 in Vermilion where he was a life long resident. He graduated from Vermilion High School and attended Cornell University and graduated from the National Electrical Institute, Washington, DC. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII in both the European and Asiatic Pacific Theatres. He worked as an electrical contractor in Vermilion, then 29 years for Motorola Communications. He joined the Vermilion Fire Dept. in 1962, becoming Chief in 1976 and retired as Chief in 2006. He had also worked as a part time electrical and building inspector. He was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, a life member of Amvets Post #22 in Vermilion, as well as various electrical and building organizations throughout Ohio. He enjoyed sailing and his electronic radios. Survivors include a son, Charles Kropf of Cincinnati, OH; and granddaughters, Abbey Kropf of Willoughby and Ashley Kropf of Akron. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ann Kropf in 2002, parents, Walter and Margaret Rose (nee Krozsier) Kropf and a brother, Kenneth Kropf . Friends may call Friday, Nov. 2, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at the funeral home at 6:00 pm. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007.
