Eugene "Gene" Sebastian Ptacek, Sr., 74, of Huron, died Thursday, October 29, 2009 in Stein Hospice, Sandusky. He was born December 27, 1934 in Cleveland, lived in Vermilion since 1986 and moved to Huron in 2005. Gene worked as the owner and operator for Gene Ptacek and Son Fire Equipment Inc. for 25 years and retired in 1999. He had been a regional commander of the Civil Defense based out of Valley View, OH and had also been a part time fire fighter for the Parma Hts. Fire Department for over 25 years. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Church in Huron and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Ptacek (nee Dittrich); son and daughter-in-law Gene Jr. and Tracey (nee Glancy) Ptacek, of Vermilion; granddaughters, Cassandra and Alyse Ptacek of Vermilion; and brother, Richard Ptacek of Seattle, WA. Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Mary (nee Benisek) Ptacek; sisters, Margaret Ptacek, Marian Lid, Lillian Krach, and Betty Ptacek; and brothers, Jim, Ed and George Ptacek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Rev.Philip Feltman will officiate.
