Florence C. Sislowski (nee Siatkowski), 92, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2011 from complications of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She was surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter. Florence was born on January 19, 1919, in Lorain where she remained a lifelong resident. She was a lifelong member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Lorain, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Florence was employed by the Lorain City Schools and retired from the Masson School Cafeteria in 1981. During World War II, she was employed by the Weitz Garment Factory where she became a skilled seamstress. She sewed for her family, making all of her granddaughters' coats, hats, dresses and Halloween costumes. In addition to her sewing talents, she was an avid gardener, taking great pride in her yard, and an excellent cook, specializing in Polish dishes that her family enjoyed, as well as her infamous cheesecakes. Her greatest treasure was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved people and had a kind and generous heart. Florence is survived by her daughter, Lori (Chris) Kallas, Amherst; daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Darryl) Sislowski, Lorain; grandchildren, Christina Kallas, Westlake; Michelle Kallas, Amherst; Scott (Carol) and Gregg Sislowski, Lorain; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jeremy and Jennifer Sislowski, Lorain; niece, Eleanor (Robert) Romes, Lorain; numerous great nieces and nephews and a large extended family. Preceding her in death was her husband, Frank (Pinky) Sislowski (1994); son, Darryl Sislowski (1997); parents Stanley and Louise (nee Czajkowski) Siatkowski; sister, Katherine Flaczynski; brothers, Louis, Frank, Leo and Stanley Siatkowski; and infant sister, Anne. Friends may call on Friday, August 26, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH where the Altar and Rosary Society will have a Rosary service at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 West 15th St., Lorain where friends may gather with the family prior to the start of the service. The Rev. Robert J. Glepko will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 West 15th St, Lorain, OH 44052, or New Life Hospice, 5255 Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
