Floyd Lee Phillips

Floyd Lee Phillips Sr., 79, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was born April 8, 1938 in Oneida, TN, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 53 years moving from Amherst. Floyd worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain for 32 years retiring in 1991 as a Tiedown Man on the Railhead loading cars. He was a member of the UAW #425, Monday Night Bowling League in Vermilion, Vermilion Country Club, and the VFW #7576. He enjoyed bowling (scoring a perfect 300 game in 1979), golfing (having a hole-in-one), watching the Cleveland Indians, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Juetta Keener of Lorain and Gwendolyn (Gary) Howell of Vermilion; son, Floyd "Tuffy" (Pam) Phillips, Jr. of Vermilion; grandchildren, Erica, Josh, Christopher, Gary Jr., Kristen, and Grant; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Ronnie Phillips, Autho Phillips, and Delyn Phillips all of TN; sisters, Barb Walker and Shiela Harris both of Oberlin, Dean West of TN, and Ina Gale Buttrum of TN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Artie Lee Phillips; great grandson, Grady Michael Howell; brothers, Hubert and Curtis Phillips; and sisters, Jean Stanley, Juetta Sue Phillips, and infant sister, Velma Jo Phillips. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Friends may also call from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 Noon on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at the funeral home. The Reverends Delyn Phillips and John Roger Stanley will co-officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
