Frances B. Mercure

Frances B. Mercure (nee Fowler), 87, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 19, 1938 in Julian, West Virginia, and had made Vermilion her home for many years.

Frances cherished her family above all else. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating with her loving husband, friends and loved ones, and found her greatest happiness in time spent with her children and grandchildren - especially sitting at home together, watching the river go by.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Willard Mercure; children, Rosanna (Larry) Miller, Carl (Lori) Hill, and Sherry Reising; eleven grandchildren, Darian, Cori, Carl, Rebecca, Rachel, Randy, Richard, Valerie, Rita, Robert, and Jessie; nine great-grandchildren, William, Robert, Olivia, Renna, Thornton, Justin, Lucas, Derk, and Vincent; brothers, Dewey Fowler of Florida, Roger (Patty) Fowler of Florida, and Eugene Fowler of West Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Bob Hall; grandson, Bryan; parents, Harvey Ray and Mattie E. (nee Shamblin) Fowler; six sisters, Virginia, Ruth, Imogene, Shirley, Velma, and Hilda; and six brothers, Harvey, Roy, Clyde, David, Dennis, and Tom.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 Noon at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089. Pastor John Jackson will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio.

The support and kindness we received from Kingston of Vermilion's Memory Care Unite and New Life Hospice did not just touch Frances but gave Willard and our family comfort during this difficult time. Words cannot fully express our appreciation for the dedication their team showed them both.
