Franklin D.R. Adkins

Franklin D.R. Adkins, 78, of Vermilion, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at MetroHealth Medical Center. He was born January 30, 1935 in Katherine, WV, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 56 years moving from West Virginia. Franklin worked for U.S. Steel Plant as a crane operator for 35 years retiring in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He also volunteered at the Vermilion Food Pantry. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolores (nee Ferry) Adkins of Vermilion; sons, Jim (Bonnie) Adkins of Graytown, OH, Thomas D. (Brenda) Adkins of Vermilion, special son John Edwards Adkins of Vermilion, Mark R. Adkins of Los Angeles, CA, and David P. (Vickie) Adkins of Vermilion; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; half sister, Betty Lou Mackey; many family and friends in West Virginia and Northern Ohio; Brother-in-law, William (Dee) Ferry of North Carolina; extended family Diane Gilmore (Hoag) Langham of Vermilion; close friend Earl Moore; many close friends in the Nelsonville area; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Clara (nee Jones) Adkins and brother, Ralph Douglas Adkins.
