George E. Harris Jr., 81, of Vermilion, died Friday, August 22, 2014 at Kingston Residence of Vermilion after a short illness. George was born September 12, 1932 in Lorain and had been a life long Vermilion resident. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. George worked for 25 years for Oberlin College in Mail Services retiring in 2007 . He was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post #397, a member of AMVETS Post #22, and an associate member of the Canadian Legion. George enjoyed golfing and bowling. He is survived by his son, Michael Harris of Vermilion; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Harris of Vermilion; and grandchildren: Taylor, Kevin, Nicholas, and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Catherine (nee Clausius) Harris. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from Noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion OH. The Reverend Roger Stanley will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
