George T Spreng

George T. Spreng Sr., 70, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at his home after a lengthy illness. George was born September 2, 1944 in Cleveland and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 39 years, moving from Lorain. He was a veteran of the United State Navy. George worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain for over 30 years retiring in 2003. He was a very active member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational where he was a member of the Men's Group, an usher, and helped with numerous maintenance activities. He was also a member of the UAW #425 where he had served as vice co-chairman; a past member of AMVETS Post #22, and he had served on the board for the Vermilion News. George was a regular blood and platelet donor and enjoyed helping people. He was known for his handyman skills and loved to put them to use when someone needed a hand. He also enjoyed woodworking and his computer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Josephine "Josie" (nee Saez) Spreng of Vermilion; daughters, Christine (Chuck Wightman) McGann of Vermilion and Rachel (Leo) Cardona of Sheffield Lake; son, George Spreng, Jr. of Vermilion; grandchildren, Brandon and Maddison Cardona; brothers, Gary (Annie) Spreng and Carl (Kathy) Spreng both of Lorain, and sister, Darlene Thorne of FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Veronica (nee Boehm) Spreng and a brother, Bob Spreng. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 12 Noon to 4:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 12 noon. Funeral services will be Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11 am at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, 990 State Street, Vermilion with the Reverend Bob Richardson and Louis Bertoni co-officiating. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst . The family suggests memorial contributions to United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Street, P.O.
