Gertrude Allen (nee Nickley), 97, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in Kingston of Vermilion after a short illness. She was born August 22, 1912 in Lorain and has been a life long Vermilion resident. Gertrude was the co-owner of Elberta Inn, Vermilion where she also worked as a cook. She also worked for Sparkle IGA, and the Wagner Hotel in Vermilion. She is survived by her sisters, Joan Fisher of Vermilion; brothers, Peter "Bud" Nickley of San Diego, CA and Gene Nickley of Vermilion; several nieces, nephews; several great niece and nephews and her love, Inky her dog. She is preceded in death by her 1st husband Percy Lima, 2nd husband George Hess and 3rd husband Eugene Allen; parents, Peter and Florence (nee Barras) Nickley, sisters, Olga "Sue" Otto, Florence "Mickey" Nickley, Lorriane "Mickey" Eberle and Odessa Kawasaki; and brothers, Alfred, George, and Archie Nickley. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 7, 2010 at 10 am at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, with the Reverend Bob Daugherty, officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
