Glen A. Coury, 84 of Vermilion, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born January 2, 1924 in Lorain and has been a Vermilion resident for the past 62 years moving from Lorain. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the North African and Italian Campaigns. He served in his unit for eleven month and wore the European-Middle-Eastern-North African campaign ribbons with two bronze stars as well as a good conduct metal and the French Coix de Guerre with the gold star. Glen worked as an inspector for Threw Shovel/Koehring, Lorain and retired in 1988 from Nordson Corporation. He was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion, AMVETS Post #22, and Amherst Eagles. He was a humanitarian. He enjoyed helping people, spending time with his family, camping, dancing, fishing, coin collecting and antiques. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois (nee Derby) Coury, daughter, Cynthia (Thomas) Frakes of Concord; 2 sons, Glen W. (Denise) Coury of Vermilion, and David ( Mary) Coury of Collins; 6 Grandchildren: Charles Gessner, Jessica Coury, Marissa Coury, Sarah Coury, Jennifer Coury, and Jamie Fantozzi; 4 step grandchildren, Jessica, Erica, Monica, and Rebecca Moulder; and 2 brothers, Richard and Jack Coury both of Bradenton, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Katherine (nee Samulitis) Coury; stepmother, Kay Coury; son, Dennis Coury; and brother, Charles "Buddy" Coury. Friends may call Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South St. Vermilion. Services will be held Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Riddle Funeral Home with the Rev. Louis Bertoni officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
