Glen William "Bill" Cutcher, 88 of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023 at Amherst Manor Retirement Community, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 16, 1935, in Bono, Ohio, and had called Vermilion his home for the majority of his life.
Bill proudly served in the US Navy.
He had many phases in his career starting out in commercial fishing and then moving on to be an automotive mechanic. Bill also worked in law enforcement with the Lorain Police Force before working for Nielson Jewelers. Later, he and his beloved wife Bonnie became the proud owners and dedicated operators of the Brownhelm Store for an impressive span of 30 years.
Simultaneously, Bill also generously shared his expertise as an automotive technology instructor at Lorain County JVS. Additionally, he owned and operated NAPA auto part stores in Vermilion, Huron and North Royalton.
Bill was a faithful member of the Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ, and a founding member of the Brownhelm Historical Association. Bill was also active in the Brownhelm Community Christmas tradition for many years.
Bill found joy in various hobbies such as collecting and restoring antique cars, as well as refurbishing player pianos. As an amateur historian he researched his family history and gave historical presentations to groups. His greatest delight, however, came from spending cherished moments with his family.
He is survived by his sons, Glen (Christine) Cutcher of Vermilion, and Albert (Shinim) Cutcher of Oberlin; daughters, Dorothy (Jeffery) Gilgenbach of Lake Frederick, VA, and Bernice Cutcher of Wellington; half-sisters, Diane Sellers of Huntington, WV and Judith May of Wilmington, NC, grandchildren, Ian, Justin, Jason, Tom, Patricia, Dana, Chris, and Joe; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bondetta "Bonnie" (nee Traxler) Cutcher in 2019, his parents, Glen Edward Cutcher and Fay (nee LaCourse) Vesper, his brother, Kenneth Cutcher, and his grandson, Andrew Nemeth.
