Gussie W. Davis (nee Wimbish), age 90, of Vermilion, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at her daughter's home following a lengthy illness. She was born April 9, 1915 in Abbeville, Mississippi and had lived most of her life in West Memphis, Arkansas. She moved to Vermilion in June 1999. A devoted homemaker and mother, she had also worked as a sales clerk for the Barnett & Levy Inc. and for the Dollar Store, both in West Memphis, AR. She also worked as a currier for the government during WWII. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Abbeville, MS, Emmanuel Baptist Church in West Memphis, AR and served on the City Beautification Committee in W. Memphis, AR. She enjoyed sports and traveling. Survivors include her daughters, Jerri McDaniel of Vermilion and Barbara Ann Smith of South Haven, MS; son, Earl L. Davis, Jr. of Hialeah, FL; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her 1st husband, Earl L. Davis, Sr., 2nd husband, Olin Kirby, parents, Walter and Maybelle (nee Seaton) Wimbish, brothers, Walter R. Wimbish, Malcolm Russell Wimbish and John Wesley Wimbish, sisters, Charlotte Elizabeth Phelan, Grace Geraldine Oxford and Mary Freeman and 3 step-sons. Private graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion with Pastor Bob Daugherty, pastor of the Vermilion E & R Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035-1450.
