Harley Bert Aley, Jr., 75, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at MetroHealth Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 21, 1951, in Canton, Ohio, and had been a Vermilion resident for most of his life.
Harley was a naturally creative and talented person who enjoyed working with his hands and turning his ideas into something special. He was self-employed as a painter and woodworker, finding great satisfaction in creating and working on projects. His creativity also showed through his love of crafts and painting pictures. When he wasn't creating something, Harley enjoyed relaxing and watching movies.
He is survived by his children, Michelle (Brian) Hanifon, Clara (Greg) Dunning, Harley Bert Aley, III, Glen (Marie) Aley, Tyler Aley, and Lydia Aley; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Lorna (Thomas Horning) Braden.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Jeremiah and Michael Aley; and his parents, Harley Aley, Sr., and Helen L. (nee Carroll) Schweinberg.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Pastor Jim Cooper will officiate.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, Inc., 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
