Harriett Ann Finnegan

Harriett Ann Finnegan (nee Higgins ), 74, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness. She was born July 4, 1942 in Marlinton, WV and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 36 years moving from Amherst. Harriett started her working career at Mishka's Restaurant and Candy Shop, Amherst and then worked as a waitress and bar tender to put herself through real estate school. She sold real estate for many years for E.J. Plott before buying the Elberta Inn in Vermilion where her and her husband, Jim, owned and operated it from 1979-1991. She then worked for Lorain Community Hospital as a secretary for the maintenance department retiring after 15 years. She was a member of South Amherst United Methodist Church and enjoyed golf outings, traveling, and going to casinos. She also enjoyed darts, starting the Firelands Dart League at Elberta Inn and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James Finnegan of Vermilion; daughters, Kim Clark, Tami Baker, and Dana Ingram all of Vermilion; step daughter, Kerry Ann Raber of Morgantown, WV; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Sidney Mann of Austin, TX and John Higgins of Middletown, IN; and sister, Sharon Ellis of Auburn, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mable (nee Reynolds) Higgins and her brother, James Mann. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 4:00 pm until the time of a memorial service at 6:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverend Karen Hollingsworth will officiate. Harriett's family would like to thank all of the nurses who provided her with excellent care.
