Wakeman- Helen (Lorenz) Nestor, 82, died peacefully at her Florence Township home Monday evening May 9,2011. She was born in Chillicothe, Ohio February 5, 1929 to Thomas Francis and Clara Emma (Webber) Lorenz. She was a Licensed Professional Counselor and served as a teacher and a guidance counselor for many years in the Firelands and Vermilion School Systems, and St. Mary Elementary School in post-retirement. She started her career as a teacher, chaperone and camp counselor at the Devereux Ranch School in Santa Barbara, CA. She earned a Masters in Education in Guidance and Counseling from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Teaching from Ashland College. She transferred to the University of California at Berkley with an Associate in Arts Degree from Pasadena City College. She was a licensed pilot and a charter member of the PCC Sigma Tau Delta Chapter, and a 1946 graduate of Birmingham High School in Florence, Ohio. She was a member of the St. Mary's Church in Wakeman, the Retired Teachers Association, NEA and OEA. She had strong interest in human rights, education and government. She is survived by her children Thomas James Nestor of Wooster, Naomi Lynn Nestor of San Antonio, Texas, Neva Ann (Don) Tegtmeier of West Salem, Joseph Jay (Cecelia) Nestor and Michael John (Betsy) Nestor, both of Wakeman, and Sharilyn Jane (Wilson) Colon of Naperville, Illinois, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Norbert James Nestor in 1997, her guardian uncle and mentor Herman Webber in 1950, brother Thomas Lorenz Jr. in 1936, father T.F. Lorenz in 1942, and mother Clara Lorenz in 1989. The family is planning a private memorial service to celebrate her life at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.riddlefuneralhome.com
