Helen E. Parmer Nightengale (nee Radcliffe) , 85 of Vermilion, died Monday, January 4, 2010 in Regency Hospital, Cleveland after a short illness. She was born February 29, 1924 in Wellington and has been a Vermilion resident for the last 56 years moving from Lorain. She worked at Norge Laundry (Vermilion Coin Laundry) and retired from E & L Transport, Lorain in 1989. Helen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Vermilion. She was the first PTA president in Vermilion at Lake School, a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and a Boy Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed reading, dining out with family, and crocheting. Survivors include her son, John H. Parmer Jr. of Vermilion; daughters, Jo Anne (Steve) Dill of Portland, Maine and Patricia Towner of Vermilion; 4 grandchildren: Wendy Simpson, Donald Nugent III, Sean Parmer, and Chad Parmer; 2 great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Tyler Olson; brother, Allan Radcliffe of Wakeman ; and sister, LaRue Bursley of New London. Preceding her in death were her parents, Andrew H. Radcliffe and Agnes (nee Leininger) Radcliffe; first husband, John Henry Parmer Sr. in 1969; brother, Elbridge Radcliffe; and sisters: Beulah Reese, Iva Radcliffe, and Eileen Horning. Joan Skelly-Watts officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
