Helen A. Schafer

Helen A. Schafer (nee Dickert), 85 of Vermilion, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at her home following an extended illness. She was born February 10, 1925 in Seward, Pennsylvania and has lived in Vermilion for the past 50 years. Helen worked for 30 years as a clerk at various drug stores in Vermilion, retiring in 1991. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching television and playing bingo. She is survived by her sons, Lawrence E. (Ann) Schafer of Blairsville, Georgia, Gary E. (Yvonne) Schafer of Lorain and Leslie (Phyllis) Schafer of Kissimmee, Florida; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Dickert and Roy Dickert, both of Johnstown, PA, John W. Dickert of Nanty Glo, PAand James Dickert of Hiawassee, GA; sisters, Anna Mary Ashcraft and Lucille Clarke, both of Johnstown, PA and Elizabeth Wasilko of Grass Valley, CA. She was preceded-in-death by her husband, Delmer Schafer in 1983, parents, Thomas and Frances (nee Yeager) Dickert, brother, Thomas Dickert and sisters, Rita Howard and Evelyn Francis. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 from 6-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
