Helen M. Washtak

Helen M. Washtak (nee Yelensky), 84 formerly of Vermilion, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 in Northridge Health Center. She was born December 12, 1921 in Lakewood, OH and had been a life long Vermilion resident moving to Abbewood Retirement Community in 2003. She was a 1939 graduate of Vermilion High School. She graduated as a registered nurse form St. Alexis School of Nursing (St. Michael's), Cleveland in 1943 With her husband Ray, they owned and operated the former Wayside Inn in Vermilion for over 20 years, selling in the mid 70's. She then assisted in the couple's home construction business. She was a member of St Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Buckeye Travelers Motor Home Club. She enjoyed spending winter months at the couple's home in Sarasota, FL. Her hobbies included traveling, fishing, gardening, cooking and baking. Survivors include daughter, Dayle Noll of North Ridgeville; son, Lon Washtak of Maumee; 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandson; brothers, Bob Yelensky of Willard, Joe Yelensky of Sun City, CA; and Don Young of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband Raymond Washtak in 2001, parents, Steve and Helen (nee Kudela) Yelensky; and brothers Steve and Charles Yelensky. Friends may call Sunday, April 9, 2006 from 2-5 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio where there will be a Christian Wake service at 4:30 p.m.. Prayers will be said at the funeral home Monday, April 10, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 781 Exchange Street, Vermilion. The Reverend Jim Holmer, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
