Helen M. Weitzman (nee Burke), 84 of Vermilion, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a short illness. She was born September 2, 1925 in Amherst, OH and has been a Vermilion resident since 1949. She had worked as a clerk in several of the Vermilion Grocery Stores. She was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational, A.A.R.P., and Madeleine Chapter #204 Order of Easter Star where she was a Past Matron and a Deputy Grand Matron of District 5. Survivors include her daughters, Donna Lee of Vermilion, Mary (James) Ferguson of Vermilion, and Amanda (Douglas) Stewart of Vermilion, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Donald D. Weitzman in 2001, parents, Roy W. and Floy S. (nee Reighley) Burke; daughter, Ruby Weitzman in 1949; sister, Eleanor Sterna; and brothers: Max Burke, Howard Burke, and Hollis Burke. Madeleine Chapter #204 Order of Eastern Star will conduct services at 4 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A Memorial service will follow. The Reverend Wendell Brooker, pastor, will officiate. The family suggests memorial contributions to Vermilion Public Schools, c/o Amy Hendricks, 1230 Beechview Drive, Vermilion, Ohio 44089, for elementary school fees for those less fortunate. Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, is entrusted with arrangements.
