Herbert G Dickel, Jr.

Herbert G Dickel Jr., 65, of Vermilion, died Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a brief illness.

He was born January 5, 1958 in Amherst, OH and had been a life long Vermilion resident.

Herbert worked for American Ship, Tampa Ship, Cleveland Ship, and Bay Ship as a welder for 44 years, retiring in 2020.

He was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical & Reformed Church.  Herbert enjoyed Go Cart racing for over 50 years and he was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his parents, Herbert and Martha (nee Henning) Dickel of Vermilion; brother, David (Cyndee) Dickel of Vermilion; sisters, Julie (Dean) McBrayer of Portage, IN and Connie (Chris) Laughlin of Vermilion; and nieces and nephews, Krista, Jordan, Jaydeyn, and Sara.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Leo and Betty Dickel; maternal grandparents, John and Mildred Henning; and his nephew, Nathan.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:30 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.  The Reverend Jonathan Cheathan will officiate.
