Hilda Marie Carty

Hilda Marie Carty (née Collins), age 86, of Vermilion, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at her home after a brief illness.

Born on August 2, 1938, in McRoberts, Kentucky, Hilda had been a resident of Vermilion for the past 67 years, having moved from Coeburn, VA where she grew up.

She dedicated many years of her life working as a nurse’s aide in Amherst and Vermilion, where she was known for her compassion and care.

Hilda was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical & Reformed Church and a past member of First Baptist Church in Vermilion.  She was active in numerous organizations including the Firelands Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), Madeleine Chapter #204 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Society of Vermilion. She was also a proud life member of both the VFW Post #7576 and AMVETS Post #22.

Hilda enjoyed crocheting, shopping for bargains at garage sales, reading the Bible, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise E. (John) Zielske of Vermilion; grandchildren: Keith (Megan) Carty, David Carty, Justin Zielske, Hannah (Austin) Barnette, and Samantha (Andrew) Ramthun; great-grandchildren: Trey, Ethan, and Arabella Carty and Everly and Walker Ramthun; daughter-in-law, Dana Carty; half-brother, Clardy Senters; her half-sisters, Irene Melton, Pauline Mitchel, and Lorene Coats and her sister-in-laws, Eutha and Elsie Carty.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert B. Carty (2008); her son, Verlin K. Carty;  great-grandson, Trenton Paul Carty; her parents, Melvin and Velma (née Nunley) Collins; her brother, Melvin Collins Jr.; her sister, Virginia Ann Collins-Coats and her beloved dog Muffin.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday July 10, 2025  from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Private inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
